Before I started dying all my own projects I was lost when it came to some of the dying lingo. When I use the term "colorway" I know that many of you have no idea what I am talking about, so here is a short explanation.
Noun. colorway (plural colorways) The scheme of two or more colors in which a design is available. It is often used to describe variegated or ombre colors on hand-dyed roving or wool.
Some of my colorways include “Galaxy” (black/purple/indigo/blue) and “Potion” (black/purple/green). The hats I dye in these colorways are often my most gorgeous, but the process of getting the hat to look that way is tricky and sometimes I have to scrap a whole hat (ie. just dye it black because it is a lost cause) and start over. There is a lot of risk when I dye these colorways, but also a lot of reward. As my skills in dying grows I feel braver and more willing to try new and more difficult colorways. If you have a colorway in mind feel free to share it here...you never know, it might one day show up in my shop!
