Basic Hat Care

The best way to store your hat is by hanging it in a non-humid place in your home, where kids or pets can't reach it. Strain and humidity will cause your hat to wilt. So don't store your hat in a basement or a place in your home that is not climate controlled.

Quick Fixes

At-Home Fix

You can "reactivate" the stiffening agent in the wool for some light hat reshaping at home.

Directions

First, boil water on the stove. Then, aim the steam at the area(s) you want to reshape. Allow the steam to hit and soften those spots. Afterward, promptly take off the hat and reshape it before it cools down and becomes stiff again. And remember, be careful not to burn yourself with the steam!

Tricky...

Reblocking is tricky, so feel free to send your hat to me instead. But it is a good quick fix for a slightly warped brim or if the tip of your hat’s tail curl becomes “uncurly”.

Careful

If you need to fix a problem area, repeat these steps as many times as necessary. The steam will soften the hat, but be cautious about where you direct the steam. Avoid placing the entire hat on the steaming pot, as it could lose its shape completely.
